About Connecticut

Connecticut was named after the Connecticut River that bisects the state. The state’s capital is Hartford, although a majority of the state’s population lives in the southern and western portions of the state, which is actually included in the New York metropolitan area known as the Tri-State Area.  Connecticut has a timeless maritime tradition, with beaches and ports along the Connecticut River, Thames River and Long Island Sound playing a key part in the state’s culture. The eastern state has a diverse geography for its small size, as it features masses of water and rolling mountains. Connecticut is home to rich cultural attributes, Ivy League schools, and various American industries.
