Explore Nursing in Illinois

Illinois leads the Midwest states in the highest salary for registered nurses, and unlike most other states, Illinois hospitals offer benefits for nurses such as sign-on bonuses, accommodating work schedules for nurses with families, as well as endowed training. One of the top employers of nurses in Illinois is Loyola Medicine, followed by Resurrection Medical Center and Northwestern Memorial Hospital. The nursing shortage affects Illinois both in rural and urban areas. By 2015, Illinois will be deficient 19% of the nurses needed in the state.  In general, nurses with at least a bachelor’s degree receive better job opportunities and higher pay. Specialty nurses are in very high demand, particularly clinical nurse specialists, nurse practitioners, midwives, and anesthetists.

About Illinois

Illinois is known as the “Land of Lincoln”, although Abraham Lincoln was not the only United States President to be elected while residing in Illinois, as Ulysses S. Grant and Barack Obama share the same background. Illinois boasts both industrial and agricultural features, with its largest city, Chicago, being the second largest central business district in the nation. The rest of the state hosts farms with various crop outputs including corn, soybeans, dairy, wheat, and livestock. Statewide, there are attractions for all walks of life, with world renowned museums, historical landmarks, festivals, national state parks, Lake Michigan, and major league sports teams in an array of sports in Chicago, including the White Sox and Cubs of MLB, the Bears of the NFL, the Bulls of the NBA, Blackhawks of the NHL, and the Chicago Fire of MLS.
