Explore Nursing in Iowa

The number of registered nurses in Iowa has been steadily increasing since 2002, by 24% overall to be exact. However, the increase in nurses is still not expected to equal the number of jobs that will become available over the next few years as more nurses retire and healthcare needs continues to rise. By 2015, Iowa will be lacking 18% of the nurses needed in healthcare facilities. Registered nurses are in high demand and advanced registered nurses are needed all across the state. The number of advanced practice nurses and clinical nurse specialists in Iowa has risen dramatically in previous years and continues to upsurge as the need does. The University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics and Saint Luke’s Hospital are amongst the top employers of nurses in Iowa.

About Iowa

Iowa is referred to as “The Hawkeye State” and the “American Heartland”. Iowa is not only recognized as one of the safest states to reside, but also is one of the most environmentally friendly, as the state boasts the highest percentage of wind power out of the entire nation. The Mississippi River borders Iowa on the east and the Missouri and Big Sioux Rivers border the state on the west. In between, the geography of Iowa varies by regions and consists of rolling hills, several natural lakes, prairies, and dense forests. Paired with a humid continental climate, outdoor adventurists will find plenty to do. Those that prefer the indoors will find fun across the state as well as in the capital, Des Moines, where residents and tourists alike can enjoy an array of museums, parks, historical landmarks, and sporting events.
