Explore Nursing in Utah

As the health of the job market in Utah improves, the outlook for nursing jobs in the state looks rather promising. The nursing shortage continues across the country, however, Utah is doing better than most other states and is only expecting a 5% nursing staff deficit by 2015, which is much less severe compared to surrounding states. Nurses with a master’s degree have an excellent chance of securing a job as a nurse practitioner in Utah, as that position is filled at a higher concentration than in other states in the nation. Nurses with at least a bachelor’s degree will have a distinct advantage over those without in filling the need for registered nurses. Top nursing employers in Utah include Intermountain Medical Center, McKay-Dee Hospital Center and University of Utah Health Care, to name a few.

About Utah

Utah is known as “The Beehive State”, a nickname that was inspired by early Mormon settlers who supposedly brought swarms of bees with them to the land.  The religion and bee theme stuck with the state, as the state’s emblem is a beehive meant to represent the Utahn perseverance, productiveness, prudence and self-sufficiency. The Mormon religion is still very present in Utahan culture, with 63% of the population being members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. A majority of the population, about 80% to be exact, live in the state’s capital Salt Lake City and along the Wasatch Front. Utah has been ranked as the fifth fastest growing state in the nation and has also been voted the “best state to live in” by several recent surveys.
