About Vermont
Vermont was dubbed “The Green Mountain State” in honor of the colonial Green Mountain Boys militia whom opposed settlers attempting to lay claim to the land and triumphed in creating the independent state known as the Vermont Republic. The New England state is known as the leading maple syrup producer in the nation and for its large number of organic farms. The state’s capital, Montpelier, has the smallest population out of any Unites States capital city, with less than 7,900 Vermonters residing there. The largest city in Vermont is Burlington, home to Lake Champlain, a rich art and music scene, and the launching zone of Phish, one of the most successful touring bands in history.
