Although integrated since 1966, South Carolina State University, originally founded in 1896 as a land-grand institution dedicated to educating African Americans, continues to maintain its character as a nationally recognized Historically Black College or University (HBCU). SC State continues remains committed to its mission of providing “affordable and accessible quality baccalaureate programs” in a wide-range of studies, including nursing. In line with its heritage as a land-grant institution, the SC State Program of Nursing is dedicated to reducing the educational and healthcare needs of the surrounding rural communities, offering three tracks toward receiving a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree.
