The University of the Virgin Islands is a public university with campuses on St. Thomas and St. Croix. Founded in 1962 as the College of the Virgin Islands, the institution first offered bachelor’s degrees in 1967 and continued to develop its curriculum and research initiatives until it achieved university status in 1986.The university is comprised of 5 Schools and Colleges, offering nearly thirty bachelor’s degrees in addition to a number of associate and master’s degree programs. It is the university’s mission to become the premier public research university in the Caribbean. The university is also the only Historically Black University or College outside of the continental US.
