ABSN Program Details

The accelerated nursing program at Averett offers three start dates each year — in January, May, and August — so students can start earning their degree sooner. The curriculum at Averett consists of 66 credit hours of nursing courses, with components including:

Online Courses

Students learn the foundational nursing concepts through interactive online courses. Online courses offer flexibility and adaptability. Students can tailor their education to their needs while also maintaining the structure of deadlines and scheduled exams.

Skills and Simulation Labs

Nursing labs offer a safe, collaborative environment where students can apply their knowledge to hands-on situations. Skills labs teach students how to perform various nursing tasks, such as inserting IVs, managing catheters, and interviewing patients. In the simulation labs, students work with high-fidelity manikins in small groups to perform nursing care in various scenarios.

Students participate in 97 hours of simulation lab in total.

Clinical Rotations

Clinical rotations at Averett provide students the opportunity to practice their nursing skills in a real-world healthcare environment. Accelerated nursing students work in a variety of healthcare facilities in the Norfolk area, completing a total of 488 hours in clinical rotations.
