Nursing School Scholarships
In addition to applying for federal student loans and private loans, many scholarships for nursing students and generic college scholarships are out there to help you pay for nursing school. Here are few tips to help you make the most of your nursing school scholarship search:
- First determine the ones for which you’re qualified so you can devote time to applying to those that you have a good chance of earning.
- When completing scholarship applications, read all guidelines and directions before applying and spend ample time gathering materials.
- If a scholarship requires an essay or personal statement, have a trusted friend or family member proof what you’ve written for any spelling errors. And if you’re stuck on what to write, start from the heart!
Nursing school scholarships exist for all types of students from diverse backgrounds, so don’t assume you don’t qualify before you begin your search. To help guide you, here are just a few scholarships for nursing students. This list doesn’t include all scholarships available; you should also always check with the specific school you’re attending for student-specific scholarships.
Hurst Reviews/AACN Nursing Scholarship
Two scholarships for $2,500 are awarded twice a year by Hurst Review Services. These scholarships are available to pre-licensure students enrolled at member AACN schools. Deadlines for the scholarships are January 15 and July 15. Winners are announced within 60 days of each deadline. Learn more.
AfterCollege/AACN Scholarship Fund
Available to students seeking a bachelor’s degree, master’s degree, or doctoral degree in nursing, the AfterCollege-AACN Scholarship Fund awards one $2,500 scholarship each quarter. Deadlines are March 31, June 30, September 30, and December 31.
Barbara Rhomberg Excellence in Nursing Scholarship
Sponsored by B4 Brands, the Barbara Rhomberg Excellence in Nursing Scholarship awards $1,000 each year to a non-traditional, full-time student pursuing an undergraduate nursing degree. Learn more.

The National Black Nurses Association Inc. offers various scholarships each year ranging from $1,000 to $5,000. Learn more.
Foundation of the National Student Nurses’ Association General Scholarships
The National Student Nurses’ Association mentors students preparing for licensure as a registered nurse. To date, over $5.2 million dollars in scholarships has been awarded to undergraduate nursing students. The scholarships are based on academic achievement, financial need, and community involvement. IHS Scholarship Program
The Indian Health Service offers three scholarships each year to American Indian and Alaska Native candidates who are pursuing careers in the health profession. Winners are chosen based on academic performance, faculty or employer recommendations and the applicant’s career goals. Learn more.
NURSE Corps Scholarship Program (NSCP)
In exchange for a two-year service commitment, NURSE Corps Scholarship Program awards scholarships to students enrolled in diploma, associate, baccalaureate, or graduate nursing programs. Preference is given to those students with the greatest financial need who are enrolled in an undergraduate or master’s nurse practitioner program full time. Learn more.
The Gates Millennium Scholars Program
The Gates Millennium Scholars Program selects 1,000 students each year to receive a scholarship to use at a university or college of their choice. The goal of the program is to provide opportunity for outstanding minority students who have shown academic promise. Learn more.
Hispanic Scholarship Fund
The Hispanic Scholarship Fund has various scholarships based on a student’s class level. The organization is the nation’s largest provider of college financial aid for Latino students — from high school seniors to current college students. Learn more.
American Indian Nurse Scholarship Program
The American Indian Nurse Scholarship Program grants a $1,500 scholarship each semester to a deserving student who remains in good academic standing. The goal of the program is to give students of American Indian descent the opportunity to pursue careers in nursing. Learn more.
American Assembly for Men in Nursing Scholarships
The number of scholarships and their value, as well as eligibility requirements, vary depending on donations received. The scholarships are available to male nursing students only. Learn more.
Raise the Nation Continuing Education Scholarships
The Raise the Nation Continuing Education Scholarship offers single parents awards of $100 to $5,000. Applicants must be accepted or currently enrolled in a college or university to qualify, and a financial need analysis is required. Learn more.
Soroptimist Live Your Dream Awards
Soroptimist Live Your Dream Awards help women live their dreams. Each year, the organization awards more than $2.6 million dollars in education grants to more than 1,700 women who have overcome obstacles from poverty to domestic violence. The Tylenol Future Care Scholarship has awarded more than $8.9 million in scholarships over the last 25 years to students pursuing education in health care. Scholarships are awarded to 35 applicants, with awards ranging $5,000 and $10,000. Learn more.
